Pastor Brad Cranston, Sr.
Senior Pastor

Brad Cranston was born in Sewickley, PA on December 2, 1962.  In 1967 his parents began attending the Allegheny Baptist Temple, pastored by B.H. Barrs, in Mt. Nebo, PA.  A few weeks before turning seven years old he walked the aisle and accepted Christ as his Savior.  At the age of 16 the Lord called him to preach during a youth revival in Library, PA.  When he graduated from North Hills Christian School in 1981 he went to Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, IN.  In 1985 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and three years later in 1988 he earned his Masters of Pastoral Theology degree.

In June 1985 Pastor Cranston was married to Heidi Marie Christner at Marion Ave. Baptist Church in Washington, IA. The Lord blessed them with eight children: Kristina (Scott Mercer), Brad Jr. (Patricia Murray), Suzanna (Andrew Blank), Kayla, Tiffany (Jonathan Brown), Emily, Jacob and Joanna.

From the summer of 1988 until the spring of 1992 Bro. Cranston served as the assistant pastor at his home church, Allegheny Baptist Temple, near Pittsburgh, PA.

On March 18, 1992, the Cranstons moved to Burlington, IA where Bro. Cranston assumed the pastorate of a 16-month-old church plant started by Pastor Jeff Bowersock that was meeting in a rented room at the local community college. On October 25, 1992, the church was chartered and organized as Heritage Baptist Church. Four years later, in 1996, the church acquired the Palace Theatre in downtown Burlington and held services there for the next 20 years. In March of 2016, the Lord opened a door of opportunity for HBC to purchase the former Open Bible Church building at 1126 Locust St. on the south side of Burlington. The church relocated the following December after extensively remodeling the sanctuary and offices. Over the years the Sunday morning attendance has grown to average 150 to 200.

In 2008, sensing the moral and spiritual decline of our political process, Bro. Cranston founded Iowa Baptists for Biblical Values. Over the years that effort has grown to include a weekly presence of Baptist pastors at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines and trusted relationships with numerous good and godly Iowa legislators.

In January of 2015, Pastor Cranston joined Dr. Chuck Harding and Awake America Ministries as the Director of the Awake America State Capitol Initiative with the goal of reproducing his Iowa efforts in other states. To date, State Capitol Initiatives have been launched in North Carolina, California, Maryland, Colorado, New York and Ohio.

Pastor Cranston’s hobbies are limited to all things Mac and following politics. Mrs. Cranston spends her time homeschooling her two youngest children, Jacob & Joanna, (twins who are 14), keeping up with her grown children, Face Timing her four grandchildren, Khloe, Kelsey, Kara and Max (Kristi & Scott), all who live in Thailand, and investing in the lives of the ladies of the church.
